SR.  CASUALTY EXAMINER needed for firm located in San Dimas. This is a temp-to-hire position and pays $35/hr. - $40/hr. 

The qualified candidate MUST have a minimum 5 years, recent liability claims handling experience, including Bodily Injury and Property claims. 

JOB SUMMARY:
The Sr. Casualty Examiner will investigate, negotiate and settle assigned casualty claims within authorized dollar limits and consistent with governing policies and legal requirements. Such claims will include significant exposures with complex coverage issues. The incumbent will provide superior claims service, building and solidifying a strong partnership through proactive professional consultation and delivering optimal solutions to meet claim needs. This position will document claim activity in accordance with best practices, provide fair settlements and excellent cost management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Verify coverage and conduct thorough investigations on new or transferred claim assignments including some litigated matters.
o Initiate contact with all stakeholders to explain claims procedures within three hours of assignment.
o Conduct thorough investigations:
• Obtain written and recorded statements, along with interviews of any witnesses regarding the loss from all pertinent stakeholders. Obtain medical and wage authorizations.
• Retain and manage vendors for scene inspection of loss to obtain further information on both automobile and property liability cases (i.E. Photographs, diagrams, evidence, repair estimates, etc.) and negotiate settlements.
o Obtain and analyze police reports, medical reports, wage loss statements, fire reports, property damage or collision damage estimates.
o Strict adherence to all company best practices, state required compliance standards and statutory regulations.
o Resolve moderate to complex coverage, liability and property damage exposures.
o Prepare comprehensive reports as required, identifying and communicating claim trends and policy concerns to management.
o Timely recommendations of reserve authority and settlement submissions.
o Attend settlement conferences and trials and represent the company in small claims court when necessary.
o Maintain timely and compliant communication with stakeholders to achieve prompt and equitable settlement of represented and non-represented claims.
o Successfully recognize opportunities for risk transfer, subrogation and special investigations.
o Ensure appropriateness of all payments.
o Participate in regular department meetings and roundtables.
o Participate in training and mentoring activities.
o Assist in mentoring other associates in their professional development.
o Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND BEHAVIORS:
o Must have working knowledge of insurance contracts, Fair Claims Settlement Practices, insurance codes and contracts, civil codes, vehicle codes, arbitration rules and regulations, tort law, Claims Plan, claim handling guidelines and best practices and corporate claims policies and procedures.
o Ability to establish and maintain rapport with insureds, claimants, vendors, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other insurance companies.
o Strong verbal and written communications skills along with negotiation expertise required to investigate and analyze information.
o Ability to perform under a heavy volume of work and make independent decisions regarding case evaluations and settlement negotiations.
o Exhibit strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet scheduled deadlines with a high level of attention to detail.
o Dealing with customers proactively, taking ownership and responsibility for driving issues to resolution
o Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment
o Achieves a standard of excellence with work processes and outcomes, honoring company policies and regulatory compliance.
o Team oriented, building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
o Is receptive to feedback and willing to learn, embrace continuous improvement.
o Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products. (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Skype, SharePoint)
o Proficiently type 35-40 wpm.
