Assistant Vice President needed for a well-established Commercial Lines Department in a Torrance, CA agency.
Join a collaborative and client focused agency where you’ll be the primary expert for all things Commercial Lines! This role will assist the current VP in the day-to-day operations of the agency, including but not limited to:
  • Managing a book of up to 10 large Commercial clients
  • Assisting top Account Managers with marketing strategies for new and renewal business
  • Step in as Acting Supervisor in absence of VP including timecards, PTO approval, and disciplining in accordance to company policy. They will train on this!
  • Prepare and give presentations to clients to go over coverages, make suggestions, and act as a resource for all things insurance
  • Coordinate with the VP to implement new policies and procedures
  • Performance evaluations
  • Build and maintain relationships with carrier representative, outside vendors, internal staff, clients, and other team members
  • Analyze loss ratios and coordinate with VP and Loss Control Consultants to develop and implement business plans and strategies for P&C Department to maintain profitability and retention goals
  • Provide support to Producers by marketing, preparing proposals, and giving presentations
 
  • HOURS: Full-Time Hours, Monday to Friday
  • DURATION: Direct Hire
  • WORKSITE: Onsite at the Torrance office during training, and hybrid once up and running. Must be willing to come in office 3x per week.
  • PAY: $130,000 - $160,000/Year depending on experience

  • Life/AD&D: Flat $20,000 coverage
  • Voluntary Life: Up to $300,000 coverage

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Insurance Designations with equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years, recent, P&C Insurance experience within an independent agency working on mid to large market, generalized risks with premiums averaging $300,000/year+
  • Strong knowledge of Commercial Lines policies including Workers' Comp, Equipment Breakdown, E&O, D&O, Business Interruption, Product Liability, CL Auto, Umbrella/Excess, General Liability, Property, etc.
  • Proficiency with AMS 360 & MS Office Suite
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Current CA P&C License
  • This role may require periodic travel to client and carrier meetings, as well as industry events, which may require the AVP to drive their own vehicle or a rental vehicle. An acceptable Motor Vehicle Report at the time of hire and periodically thereafter along with maintenance of minimum acceptable insurance coverage will be required.

Julie Brown is the President of SDI Staffing.  She started SDIS in 1995 and specializes in placing temporary and direct-hire employees throughout Southern California for the insurance and financial services industries. Julie is a California Licensed Fire/Casualty Agent and a Certified Staffing Professional.  She is a member of the American Staffing Association (ASA) and California Staffing Professionals.  She is the past president and current treasurer of the San Diego Chapter of California Staffing Professionals and is the director for the San Diego Chapter on the state board.  She is active in San Diego Insurance Women and PWI, where she has served numerous roles including president.  She actively participates as a member of the Independent Brokers and Agents of San Diego, and the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS) San Diego Chapter.  In 2008, Julie was asked to join the steering committee of the San Diego Chapter of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF).  She also teaches insurance and personal development classes to clients and industry organizations.She has been recognized with numerous awards, including SBA’s “Women Owned Business of the Year for San Diego and Imperial Counties,” “Employer of the Year” by the San Diego Workforce Partnership, “Women Who Mean Business” Award from the San Diego Business Journal, “Insurance Woman of the Year” from PWI, “Associate Member of the Year” by the Independent Brokers & Agents of San Diego, and the Career Sponsorship Award by the OPT Program at Grossmont College for her dedication to educate young people about the insurance industry.

Prior to founding SDI Staffing, Julie spent more than 12 years in insurance both at carrier and agency level in Southern California and North Carolina.  From sales and customer service in both personal and commercial lines, to operations manager, Julie learned the insurance industry.

She is a native of San Diego, married with two children, a daughter and a son, and enjoys camping, reading, and attending her kid’s athletic events.  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Economics from the University of California at San Diego.  During race season she can be found every other weekend at Barona Speedway watching her son and husband racing dwarf cars.
