Job Description

Bilingual Japanese/English Commercial Insurance Account Manager is needed for a growing independent insurance agency out of Torrance, CA.

Role can be remote, but you must be willing to work Pacific Standard Time, able to travel to California 1x/month, and have independent insurance agency experience! West Coast candidates preferred due to travel and PST hours.

In this client facing role, you will focus on understanding the Commercial Insurance client’s unique needs and leveraging services for them. You will use your personal skills to cultivate long-lasting relationships. Client profiles for this position span a diverse set of industries and are large, complex accounts. This position will act in a consulting capacity, administer client marketing, renewals, pre and post renewal presentations, and daily service functions for their assigned book of business.

  • HOURS:  Mon-Fri, 9:00AM-5:30PM (PST)
  • DURATION:  Direct Hire
  • PAY:  $72,000 - $92,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • WORKSITE: This role can be remote, but travel to California 1x per month, and working PST hours is required! West Coast candidates preferred due to travel and working time zone requirements.

•    LTD: 60% up to $6000 monthly benefit / STD 60% ($1500), 25 weeks
•    AFLAC: Cancer, Accident, Critical illness, Hospital, etc. (July open enrollment)
•    401k contribution eligibility after 60 days of employment, with employer matching after 12 months of employment. Matching is 100% to 3% and 50% to 5%.
•    Employee contribution is 18% if employee only, 35% of dependent premium for Medical, Dental and Vision



Ideal candidate must have the following skills:
  • Bilingual Japanese/English is required! JLPT N1 certification may be required.
  • AMS360 experience is a plus!
  • Minimum of 3 or more years of Commercial Lines Account Management experience within an independent agency.
  • Experience servicing, marketing, and presenting new and renewal quotes for Commercial Insurance lines, including but not limited to General Liability, Workers' Compensation, CL Auto, Umbrella/Excess, Professional Lines, BOPs, etc.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make accurate decisions and demonstrate good judgement.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time/project management skills.
  • Must possess and maintain active CA Property & Casualty Licenses. If out of state, must obtain non-resident licensing. Agency will assist with this!
  • Must understand basic underwriting principles, the mechanics of Commercial policies.
  • This position will require routine or periodic travel which may require the teammate to drive their own vehicle (depending on distance to client) or a rental vehicle. If required, acceptable results of a Motor Vehicle Record report at the time of hire and periodically thereafter, and maintenance of minimum acceptable insurance coverages are requirements of this position.
  • Maintain positive working relationships and clear communication with co-workers, clients, and insurance carriers.
  • Must be available for offsite meetings with clients 1x per month.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available. W2 only.

Julie Brown is the President of SDI Staffing.  She started SDIS in 1995 and specializes in placing temporary and direct-hire employees throughout Southern California for the insurance and financial services industries. Julie is a California Licensed Fire/Casualty Agent and a Certified Staffing Professional.  She is a member of the American Staffing Association (ASA) and California Staffing Professionals.  She is the past president and current treasurer of the San Diego Chapter of California Staffing Professionals and is the director for the San Diego Chapter on the state board.  She is active in San Diego Insurance Women and PWI, where she has served numerous roles including president.  She actively participates as a member of the Independent Brokers and Agents of San Diego, and the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS) San Diego Chapter.  In 2008, Julie was asked to join the steering committee of the San Diego Chapter of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF).  She also teaches insurance and personal development classes to clients and industry organizations.She has been recognized with numerous awards, including SBA’s “Women Owned Business of the Year for San Diego and Imperial Counties,” “Employer of the Year” by the San Diego Workforce Partnership, “Women Who Mean Business” Award from the San Diego Business Journal, “Insurance Woman of the Year” from PWI, “Associate Member of the Year” by the Independent Brokers & Agents of San Diego, and the Career Sponsorship Award by the OPT Program at Grossmont College for her dedication to educate young people about the insurance industry.

Prior to founding SDI Staffing, Julie spent more than 12 years in insurance both at carrier and agency level in Southern California and North Carolina.  From sales and customer service in both personal and commercial lines, to operations manager, Julie learned the insurance industry.

She is a native of San Diego, married with two children, a daughter and a son, and enjoys camping, reading, and attending her kid’s athletic events.  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Economics from the University of California at San Diego.  During race season she can be found every other weekend at Barona Speedway watching her son and husband racing dwarf cars.
