Job Description
Employee Benefits Account Manager needed for a growing agency in Schaumburg. This role is 3-4 days in office per month, but requires periodic travel to meet with new clients.
You must live within commuting distance to Schaumburg and work a 9AM – 5:30PM (CST) schedule.
This role will work directly with client key stakeholders for new business and renewals. You will use your personal skills to cultivate long-lasting relationships. Client profiles for this position span a diverse set of industries and will range in size from 150+ employee lives covered on benefits, including many level and self-funded accounts. In this role, you will be responsible for presenting to business owners and key stakeholders, and have commission potential on new business, including BORs you assist the sales team obtain!
- HOURS: Monday-Friday, 9:00AM-5:30PM (CST)
- DURATION: Direct Hire
- WORKSITE: Limited Hybrid – Must be willing to come in office 3-4x a month for meetings, and live within reasonable commuting distance to Schaumburg, IL. This role does require travel throughout the Midwest periodically.
- PAY: $90,000 - $125,000 per year + Commissions on new business, depending on experience.
- BENEFITS: This client offers a full comprehensive benefits package to include
• 4 medical options. (1) PPO/HSA with Anthem Blue Cross and HSA with sterling HSA. $2,100 single/$4,200 family deductible. Employer annual contribution to HSA is $1,000 single/$2,000 family (pro-rated); (2) Medical PPO with $500 deductible $30/$60 office visit; (3) Medical PPO with $250 deductible $15/$30 office visit (4) Medical PPO /HSA with $6,700 deductible.
• Dental; Principal POS plan $2,000 max
• Vision: Principal VSP plan.
• Life/AD&D, Flat $20,000, Additional Life/AD&D options
• LTD: 60% up to $6000 monthly benefit / STD 60% ($1500), 25 weeks
• AFLAC: Cancer, Accident, Critical illness, Hospital, etc. (July open enrollment)
• 401k contribution eligibility after 60 days of employment, with employer matching after 12 months of employment. Matching is 100% to 3% and 50% to 5%.
• Employee contribution is 18% if employee only, 35% of dependent premium for Medical, Dental and Vision as of current policy period starting 12/1/2023
- Minimum of 5+ years of current employee benefits experience working in a retail agency as an Account Manager who has experience servicing self and level-funded accounts. Due to the requirements of this role, we cannot consider any candidates with a PEO or TPA only background.
- Experience with accounts 150 – 500+ lives including level and self-funded.
- Expert understanding of compliance (ACA, ERISA, HIPAA), benchmarking, renewal & marketing (RFP), reporting & analytics, and able to perform these functions and explain to client with guidance from the team lead as needed.
- Experience presenting renewals in person or over Zoom/Teams to business owners and key stakeholders.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite.
- Benelinx, Ease, Zywave, and/or Mineral Software experience is a plus!
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time/project management skills.
- Must have active Illinois Life/Accident and Health Insurance Agent Licenses
- This position may require routine or periodic travel which may require the teammate to drive their own vehicle or a rental vehicle. If required, acceptable results of a Motor Vehicle Record
- Must be available for offsite meetings with clients including travel to out-of-state locations as needed.

Julie Brown is the President of San Diego Insurance Temps, Inc., a company that she has successfully led since its inception. She oversees two divisions: SDI Staffing, which she founded in 1995, and A-Star Staffing, which was acquired in 2023. SDI Staffing specializes in placing temporary and direct hire employees in the insurance industry across California, Arizona, and Nevada. She has served in numerous roles, including President, within these organizations. Additionally, she is an active member of the Independent Agents and Brokers of both Orange County and San Diego. Notably, she was the first Associate Member on the board of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of San Diego (IIAB San Diego). Julie is also dedicated to education, teaching insurance and personal development classes to clients and industry organizations.

These include being named among the Elite Women in Insurance in 2022 by Insurance Business America, receiving the SBA’s “Women-Owned Business of the Year for San Diego and Imperial Counties,” and being honored with the “Employer of the Year” award by the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Before founding San Diego Insurance Temps, Inc., Julie spent over 12 years working in the insurance industry at both carrier and agency levels in Southern California and North Carolina. Her roles ranged from sales and customer service in personal and commercial lines to operations management, giving her comprehensive industry knowledge.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Economics from the University of California, San Diego. A San Diego native, she is married with two married children and enjoys crochet, camping, and reading in her spare time. During race season, she can often be found at the race track, where her son and son-in-law compete in 600 Midgets or dwarf cars.
