Job Description

Underwriting Operations Supervisor in Workers Compensation needed for an insurance carrier in San Diego, CA.  
The Underwriting Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising the operations of the Underwriting Department in addition to being responsible for providing support to the underwriting function through customer service and processing of underwriting files. This includes direct supervision of the department support personnel. This role is responsible for maintaining an efficient operational workflow in support of company strategy. 
  • HOURS: 08:00 am – 05:00 pm PST
  • DURATION: Direct Hire
  • WORKSITE: This is a Hybrid remote role working 3 days in the San Diego office each week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • PAY: Depending on experience, $70,000- $100,000 per year

Job Duties can include but are not limited to:
  • Participate in the implementation of business strategies to effectively achieve policy service objectives.
  • Participate in the implementation of operational and policy service workflow processes and standards. Ensure effective implementation.
  • Manage account support activities to meet production goals; assure compliance and performance standards are achieved; provide management information as necessary; utilize available resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Effectively manage production information reports.
  • Act in a collaborative capacity with both internal and external customers to resolve problems/issues quickly. Establish priorities and make workflow decisions.
  • Assure that contractual commitments are met.
  • Act in a proactive manner; resolve matters resulting in bottleneck situations to assure business results are not negatively affected by operational problems.
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships through on-going dialogue with Underwriting Management, Underwriters & agents/brokers.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of customer service.
  • Participate in projects as assigned.
  • Perform all necessary staff management functions; recruiting, training, development, goal setting and manage performance to support growth.
  • Takes responsibility for own actions and decisions.
  • Mentor and motivate less experienced members of the staff

  • Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ recent experience in workers compensation underwriting operations, audit or compliance and 1 or more years recent leadership experience with direct management and mentoring of staff. 
  • Policy Service background with emphasis in Workers Compensation.
  • Working knowledge of NCCI and CA WCIRB basic manual rules, premium rating and standard forms required. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access or other database experience required. 
  • Excellent math, problem solving, and project management skills required. 
  • Broad working knowledge of workers comp coverages, procedures and rating. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Prior to founding SDI Staffing, Julie spent more than 12 years in insurance both at carrier and agency level in Southern California and North Carolina.  From sales and customer service in both personal and commercial lines, to operations manager, Julie learned the insurance industry.

She is a native of San Diego, married with two children, a daughter and a son, and enjoys camping, reading, and attending her kid’s athletic events.  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Economics from the University of California at San Diego.  During race season she can be found every other weekend at Barona Speedway watching her son and husband racing dwarf cars.
